ASI to refurbish Purana Qila museum by September

The museum will be equipped with latest security gadgets such as CCTVs, and security system, fire-fighting equipment etc.

New Delhi: Stepping ahead with an initiative to promote tourism and also to create awareness among Delhiites about medieval history, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is all set to refurbish the museum at Old Fort also known as Purana Qila.

The approximate cost of the work will be around Rs 1.45 crore and it is likely to be completed before the end of September this year.

The aim of this request for proposal (RFP) of ASI is to upgrade and modernise the archaeological museum in order to bring the display, storage and presentation of its collections to latest technological standards.

The upcoming museum will have the holistic display system and state-of-the-art showcased as per requirement of the artifacts and design approved after the technical presentation.

Also preparation of graphic and textual materials, including models, content and medium of display such as captions, digital labels, blow-ups, interpretative boards, interactive technological options such as kiosks, plasma screens, use of audio video and multimedia etc will make the museum attractive for visitors.

The museum will be equipped with latest security gadgets such as CCTVs, and security system, fire-fighting equipment etc.

Apart from many interesting objects, fact sheets have also been put on display in the museum. These include pre-historic tools of Maurya period (300 BC-200 BC), Sunga period (200 BC-100 BC) and Saka-Kushan period (100 BC to 300 AD).

The museum also has details of the Old Fort, one of the oldest sites in Delhi, in particular and the city in general.
