EDMC proposes professional tax, hikes property tax by 3 per cent
New Delhi: While introducing new betterment and professional taxes, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Tuesday increased property tax by three per cent in a few categories of colonies. Presenting the budget proposal for the next financial year in the standing committee, the EDMC commissioner Dr Dilraj Kaur said that major increase in revenue expected from property tax, toll tax, parking lots and advertisements.
Dr Kaur proposed professional tax of '100 per month for those earning more than '5 lakh a year and '200 per month for those earning above '10 lakh. She also proposed betterment tax for enhancement of property value due to public infrastructure development at a rate of 10 per cent of property tax. Education cess of 5 per cent of property tax also proposed. “Garbage collection charges will be levied as per SWM Act,” she said.
On strengthen sanitation services, Dr Kaur said that the EDMC to develop 5 more community toilets and 46 public toilets, 5350 more bins are being installed and after distributing 83,000 dustbins among citizens of 12-litre capacity each now plan to buy more such 1,50,000 bins. “Trommel-cum-ballistic machines started segregating and processing the waste at Ghazipur landfill site for reclamation of landfill sites,” Dr Kaur added.
Dr Kaur informed the standing committee that 81 parking sites have been identified for expansion of parking facilities and tenders have been issued for the same. “Upgradation and renewal work of all wards of the hospital is underway. 54 air-conditioners (ACs) costing around '25 lakh have been installed in the wards. SDN Hospital has procured different modern types of equipment like haematology analyzer, ICU monitor, anesthesia machine, soft tissue laser, surgical bed and other equipment,” she added.
