Women molested in Lutyens' Delhi

Incident took place near five-star hotel, one accused arrested.

New Delhi: In yet another incident of molestation in the national capital, two women were allegedly harassed by two bike-borne men outside a five-star hotel in Lutyens Delhi. Following the incident, one of the accused was arrested, police said on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, B.K. Singh, the deputy commissioner of New Delhi police, said: “The incident took place on the intervening night of December 14 and 15. One of the accused was arrested right at the spot.”

The police said that the incident took place when the two women, who hail from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, had come out of the hotel and were waiting for their cab. It was then that the two bike-borne men started harassing them and passed lewd remarks at them.

According to the complaint, the duo then parked their bike and molested one of the two women. Subsequently, the women fought back. A policeman, who was at the spot, caught hold of one of the accused while the other managed to flee.

Among the two, only the complainant has been named as a victim in the case as she was the one molested.

The police registered a case under Sections 354 (molestation) and 506 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the IPC. The second accused has also been identified and efforts are being made to track him down.

“Two men on a motorcycle came near the main gate of the five-star hotel on Ashoka Road and tried to misbehave with them. In the meantime, a police patrol vehicle came and overpowered one of them while the other managed to escape,” added the DCP.

The arrested accused, 28, is a resident of Sadar Bazar, he added.

The DCP said that they have identified the second accused and efforts were being made to nab him.
