New Delhi: A mother and her minor daughter were allegedly attacked and brutally beaten by a neighbour after the girl asked him not to urinate in front of her house.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening in West Delhi’s Maurya Enclave in Pitampura. The victim and the accused are said to be neighbours and live in the JJ cluster slums. The accused who has been identified by the victim as Rahul alias Gandhi works in a repairing shop and is a goon of the area.

The Maurya Enclave police visited the spot and has registered a case of assault and threat to life against the accused, who is currently on the run.

It all began when Shobha (name changed), a Class 9 student of a government school was cleaning the area in front of her house on Tuesday evening. As Shobha was about to finish the work, she noticed Rohit was urinating in front of her house. Infuriated, Shobha allegedly asked Rohit to go away and reprimanded him for urinating in public, which didn’t go down well with the accused. In her plaint to the police, the minor alleged that when she checked Rohit, he lost his cool and began hurling abuses at her. When Shobha responded, Rohit allegedly dragged her by her hair, punched her on her stomach and assaulted her. Hearing her loud cries, when Shobha’s mother rushed to her daughter’s rescue and saw Rohit mercilessly beating her, the accused punched down the victim’s mother. He then threatened them not to raise their voice against him as he is area’s known goon. When the duo raised an alarm for help, the accused after kicking Shobha fled the spot.

The assault came to light when neighbours saw the mother-daughter-duo crying for help and alerted the police who visited the spot and based on the complaint registered a case under relevant sections.

A team has been formed and is on the look out for Rohit. “Preliminary probe reveals that Rohit is an anti-social element. The police has credible inputs about him and he will be nabbed soon,” said an investigating official.
