Ticket to those who believe in Modi's policies, says Manoj Tiwari

Tiwari clarified that among the sitting councillors only those who have performed well will be given tickets.

New Delhi: Gearing for the upcoming crucial civic polls, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said that the party tickets to contest polls would be given to those 272 individuals who love the city and believe in the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the question of whether sitting BJP councillors will be given tickets, Mr Tiwari said that the party is preparing a performance report card of all the sitting councillors in the three civic bodies.

Sending a strong warning to the party leaders, who indulge in factionalism and groupism, Mr Tiwari told this newspaper that all they need to do is to understand that he is the party president and he will not tolerate such activities which would adversely affect the party’s image.

Mr Tiwari said that those seeking tickets to contest must come up with ideas to make the city better and perhaps the best place to reside in the country as they would be the real executors of policies at the ground level. “Being an elected member of the local bodies, councillors can do a lot in making this city a better place. And I am simply asking the ticket seekers that they should love Delhi and believe in Prime Minister Modi’s policy. Only then they should approach the party for ticket,” he said.

Mr Tiwari clarified that among the sitting councillors only those who have performed well will be given tickets. He said that he would ensure that no non-performer is given party ticket for these crucial polls. “During my reality check, I am also taking feedback from citizens about the performances of BJP councillors. Based on the feedback from the citizens directly collected by me or an assessment report prepared by the party, sitting councillors will be given ticket. For a sitting councillor, only his performance will be the criteria for getting ticket,” he added.

Amid reports of factionalism and groupism in the party, which is likely to damage BJP’s chances in the civic elections, Mr Tiwari emphasised that each and every party member must understand that individuals are not bigger than the party.

“There is no place for nuisance in BJP and those involved in factionalism and groupism must understand that there is no place for them in our organisation.”
