From Mumbai to Delhi with a message to combat addiction

His addiction also led him to imprisonment for about three years.

NEW DELHI: To spread awareness about addiction and ways to combat it, Rahul Ramakant Jadhav, a reformed addict from Mumbai, on Wednesday completed an ultra-run from Gateway of India to India Gate covering a distance of 1,475. The DeAddiction Ultra Run 2019, in its 1st edition, was initiated on February 1, 2019, from Gateway of India in Mumbai and concluded at India Gate in New Delhi.

Until now, Rahul has participated and completed 22 run events and three solo runs. He is a perfect example of reformation who became a heavy alcohol addict in 2000 and was finally able to combat his addiction in 2014. His addiction also led him to imprisonment for about three years.

At the rehabilitation centre, Rahul initially started running for an hour and gradually increased his stamina to cover longer distances. Continuous practice sessions made him realise that he enjoyed running as it helped him to release all his frustration and feelings and able to utilise his energies into the run. Rahul regularly began participating in marathons across Pune and Mumbai and has never stopped since then.

On completing this feat, Rahul said: “Post my recovery from addiction, I took to running and enjoyed it thoroughly. Running gives me a sense of satisfaction and achievement and I wish to reach out to more people and share my experience to help them take that step towards reformation.”
