Suspense over Leaders of House to end soon

According to sources, these three councillors knocked every possible door seeking confirmation of their appointment.

New Delhi: Suspense over the appointment of Leaders of House in the three municipal corporations is likely to get over within a couple of days as the Delhi BJP may retain councillors who were earlier nominated for the post. After issuing stern directions to its three leaders, the state leadership has cleared their names and a letter confirming their appointment may be issued shortly.

After the historic mandate in the April 23 civic polls in the city, Delhi BJP, while finalising the names of mayor and deputy mayor in the three civic corporations, also announced the names of Sikha Rai, Jai Prakash, and Santosh Pal as Leaders of House in South, North, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation respectively. But these leaders failed to assume office since the party had not issued letters to the respective municipal secretaries confirming their appointment.

Well-placed sources in the party said that after much deliberation, it has been decided that the party must forgive their mistake of not following the leadership direction in true spirit and give these councillors a chance to perform and deliver.

“A stern warning stating that they should not indulge in factionalism in party has been issued to them. They are asked to concentrate on delivery of promises made before the polls,” he added.

According to sources, these three councillors knocked every possible door seeking confirmation of their appointment. Even the Central leaders told this newspaper that confirmation of appointment has been delayed due to some misunderstanding, which has now been cleared.

“Appointment of these leaders will be announced at the earliest in a day or two,” said a senior BJP leader. Appointment of these leaders were delayed after they attended a felicitation function for the newly elected BJP councillors in the three civic bodies at the official residence of Union minister Vijay Goel despite clear instruction from Delh BJP leadership to not attend the programme. Due to conflict within the party, the Delhi BJP leadership has failed to nominate Leader of House in any of the three civic bodies.
