Gangrape case: US woman back in New Delhi
New Delhi: A 25-year-old American woman, who was allegedly raped at a five star hotel in Connaught Place, arrived in New Delhi on Monday night to record her statement under Section 164 CrPC.
Police sources say that they might initiate the process to arrest the tour guide and the bus operator whom the woman had accused of rape.
Sources say that a three- member police team has been counselling the woman to request her to identify two of the accused. The woman’s trip to India was paid for by the US embassy.
Police officers say that the survivor was sent for a medical checkup on Monday following which she was counselled by an NGO.
The woman would be requested to record her statement before the magistrate on Wednesday. The survivor had said that she was trying to cope up after the ordeal. Police officers say that the survivor is not put under any stress. Cops have also contacted the NGO that had sent an email to the Delhi police on October 5, narrating the ordeal of the survivor.
The victim has spoken to a female police officer a couple of times on phone along with her lawyer and answered some questions earlier as well. She had claimed that she was not satisfied with the probe.
She has also expressed her apprehensions to the cops that the accused might have destroyed any evidences that the cops could have recovered from their mobile phones. Even though she was not comfortable to come back to India, she has assured the investigating agencies that she would assist the cops in the case.
The woman said that she had chosen India for her first trip abroad as she is “interested in learning about Indian as well as Middle East culture”, despite being told about concerns over women safety in the country.
After she landed in India, she didn’t realise what happened to her as she was allegedly sedated by the accused who also made videos of the act and threatened her with dire consequences, the victim said. According to her statement the accused men had kept on drugging her in some form or the other at least for the first three days of the tour so that she did not complain about it to anyone.
