Max Shalimar Bagh reopens as order stayed

The hospital received a stay order from the Court of Financial Commissioner to which it had appealed on December 14.

New Delhi: Max Hospital at Shalimar Bagh resumed its operations on Wednesday, ten days after its license was cancelled for alleged medical negligence, including erroneously declaring a baby dead.

The hospital received a stay order from the Court of Financial Commissioner to which it had appealed on December 14.

The hospital, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said that operations were being resumed following a stay order issued by “the appropriate appellate authority to whom an appeal was made”.

The relief for the hospital, whose licence was cancelled by Directorate of Health Services, Delhi, has come from the court of financial commissioner. “We are fully focussed on providing quality care to all our patients and honouring our commitment of ensuring free treatment to the economically weaker sections of the society,” Max Hospital said. The license of Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, was cancelled by Delhi government, under the Delhi Nursing Home Registration Act, days after a newborn twin was erroneously declared ‘dead’ by the upscale hospital. An order issued on December 8 stated that the hospital cannot admit any new patient and was directed to close all its operations, including the out-patient department (OPD) and emergency services with immediate effect. The decision came after the three-member panel, set up by the government, found the hospital guilty of medical negligence and of not having followed “prescribed medical norms.”
