Families of victims, kin have a nasty time
NEW DELHI: It was a chaotic Sunday at the Valmiki Hospital and B. R. Ambedkar hospital where bereaved family members of the victims lost in the Bawana fire gheraoed the hospital authorities and demanded that the bodies be handed over so that last rites could be performed.
On learning about the tragedy, scores of relatives rushed to be with the families as a moral support.
The loss of their loved ones to the fire and the pain and the pain was visible in the eyes and faces of the families who wandered about aimlessly, smiling and talking almost at the same time.
“My mother had promised me that she would come home soon and will also bring crackers for me. I am trying to trace her, but can’t find her. Please tell me where is she,” asks a 10-year-old Sudhir, who along with his father was seen searching for her.
A tear rolled down his father’s cheek when he said, “She could be alive. I wont give up hope. I will check in another hospital.”
Baburam, the brother of Sony, later identified by the police as dead, was seen running helter-skelter unaware of the fate of his sister. “My sister may be trapped inside the dirt or evacuated safely. It was her first day at the job. She is five months pregnant with her first child,” a iconsolable Baburam added.
