NEW DELHI: Delhi lieutenant governor  (LG) Anil Baijal met families of those engulfed in the fire at the B.R. Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.

Health minister Satyendra Jain, who accompanied the LG, said autopsies were conducted only on those bodies that have beeb identified.

“We have formed a committee to look into the matter. People showed us the wrappers of firecrackers, I do not think anyone has a license to manufacture firecrackers in Delhi,” Mr Jain said, adding if there was one, it is a serious offence.

“We have formed a committee to the case. People showed us wrappers of firecrackers, I do not think anyone has a licence to manufacture firecrackers in Delhi,” he said. “It was a serious offence. It doesn’t matter if the culprit is a private owner or a government official, strict action will be taken,” Mr Jain added.

The fire, which erupted on the ground floor of the two-storey firecracker storage unit in outer Delhi’s Bawana industrial area, killed 17 people on Saturday and injured two others.

Meanwhile Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Delhi Congress on Sunday demanded action against those responsible for the fire incident.

“It is indeed sad. All affected people must be given all kinds of assistance. Culprits be punished as per the law,” Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said in a tweet.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal late last night has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to kin of 17 who died in the fire incident at a factory in Bawana industrial area.

The Delhi unit of BJP briefing the media on Sunday, demanded Rs 50 lakh as compensation for each of the victim’s family. Addressing media, Delhi MPs Meenakshi Lekhi and Dr Udit Raj and NDMC mayor Dr Preety Aggarwal said the Kejriwal government’s negligence is primarily responsible for the deaths of the workers, especially the child labour, employed in the Bawana factory which caught fire yesterday evening.
