Congress panel meets Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, seeks action
New Delhi: A delegation of Congress leaders on Wednesday met lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal and urged him to take action against AAP legislators who had allegedly assaulted chief secretary Anshu Prakash at chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. The L-G reportedly assured the delegation that the matter was under consideration and he would soon take a call on it.
Led by Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken, the other delegates included former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, former city ministers Haroon Yusuf, Narendra Nath, Kiran Walia and Ramakant Goswami.
Later in the evening, the party leaders held a general body meeting to chalk out a strategy to lodge protests across the city over the AAP government’s failure to generate employment, price hike and other pressing issues concerning the national capital. The jam-packed Congress Headquarters at Deen Dayal Uphadyay Marg had leaders from 280 madals, where protests will be held.
The meeting, among others, was addressed by Mr Maken and Ms Dikshit who urged the party workers to ensure burning issues were prominently highlighted in their respective areas. The protests will hold significance as 20 Assembly seats, where Election Commission had disqualified AAP MLAs for holding office of profit while serving as parliamentary secretaries, are expected to go for by-polls in the near future. Political pundits are of the view that any loss of these 20 seats and gain by the Congress will automatically weaken the authority of the CM.
