New Delhi: In a bizarre incident, the sleuths of the Delhi police went into a tizzy when a call made to the control room, on late Friday night, left the police department with cold feet.

The caller allegedly made three calls and claimed that he will trigger a series of blasts in the national capital. However, what came as a shock to the department during the probe was that the caller was not a miscreant, but a suspended police constable.

The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning. The suspended constable, identified as Subhan, had come to the Patel Nagar barrack to sleep when he made the prank call.

Speaking to this correspondent, a senior police officer said that Subhan made three calls to the Central district control room around 1.35 am. He used constable Dharmendra’s phone, who is attached to the Ranjeet Nagar police station.

The senior police officer added that during the call, Subhan claimed to have links with terror outfits. Before disconnecting the call, he claimed that within a few minutes the city would witness serial blasts. Soon, the higher-ups were informed about the call and within a few minutes the team tracked the number. An inquiry was set up and during the probe it came to light that at the time the call was made, Dharmendra was not in possession of his phone.

He had put it on charge in the barrack. Subhan, who was suspended over dereliction of duty, had grabbed the phone and called the control room. When asked if any inquiry has been initiated against Subhan, a senior police officer said that he is already under suspension. However, the matter is being probed as to why he made the fake threat calls.
