Child-friendly police station at IGI Airport

Lounge, cafeteria for visitors are among new facilities.

New Delhi: Conventional guns and photos of offenders have been replaced with toys and pictures of super heroes. The walls have donned an artistic look instead of the usual drab bulletin board.

A lounge for visitors, a safe house, a child-friendly room, a recreation room and even a cafeteria are among the facilities at the new police station at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport that was inaugurated by Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Friday.

This state-of-the-art building is constructed by NBCC and is equipped with all modern amenities and round the clock power backup. The building truly gels with the other corporate buildings in the airport area. This first of a kind child-friendly police station has a colourful children’s room equipped with toys, games, beanbags, and soft rubberised mats with attached washroom.

A well-equipped washing area with laundry facilities for staff and a recreation room with indoor games are other important features of the building.

“The new deputy commissioner of police (DCP) office-cum-police station at the Indira Gandhi International Airport has a colourful child-friendly room with toys and soft rubberised mats and a conference hall with all required gadgets and a safe house for emergency situations,” said DCP Sanjay Bhatia.

It also has a modern lounge for visitors with an LCD screen, which will display mandatory guidelines, instead of the traditional bulletin boards. The building consists of a modern conference hall next to the DCP’s office with all modern facilities such as a PA system, projector etc. It boasts of a business centre equipped with four computers along with high speed Internet connection and an all-in-one multipurpose machine for photocopy, scanning, and printing to facilitate the IOs in their day today work.
