New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women helped a six-year-old boy in reuniting with his family. The boy was missing from his school and was found after six days from a shelter home.

The women’s commission said that it will issue a notice to the school authorities for their careless behaviour and for not allowing the boy to enter the school after which he went missing.

A resident of Mandawali area, the boy reached his school a few minutes late on August 9 but was denied permission to enter the class. “His sister, who also studies at the same MCD school, left him at school gate and went to her class. When school time was over, his sister returned home without her brother. She narrated the incident to her family. The family tried to search for him in surrounding areas, but without any success,” a statement from DCW said.

The boy’s parents then contacted the Mahila Panchayat Centre of Delhi Commission for Women in Shakarpur, that is runned by Janpahal NGO.

“A DCW coordinator accompanied his parents to police station and helped in lodging his missing complaint in the police station. After lodging missing complaint, police started tracing him, but to no avail. Mahila Panchayat gathered some women of surrounding areas and demonstrated before poli-ce station. The child’s picture was sent to all nearby railway stations and other authorities. Child’s parents visited many shelter homes in the capital and circulated his picture,” it added.

On August 15, a call was received from Butterfly shelter home and it was informed that the boy was living there. “On reaching there it was found that on the day of missing, the boy had boarded a local train and had deboarded at Nizamuddin railway station. At Nizamuddin station someone found Raju wandering and called Childline Helpline. They kept the boy in Butterfly Home, and when they found picture of the boy circulating, they info-rmed his parents.”

The boy was then produced before Child Welfare Committee from where he was sent with his parents.
