New Delhi: Upset with the Delhi BJP leaders’ “failure” to come forward in protest against the sealing drive, Union minister and former city unit president Vijay Goel on Friday took them to task and noted that brainstorming while sitting in air-conditioned rooms will not yield any result when Delhiites are suffering.

In a meeting with the Delhi BJP office-bearers on day one of the two-day executive meet , the Union minister termed the office-bearers who were present in the meeting an inefficient lot for their failure to start a movement against the ongoing sealing drive.

Sources told this newspaper that Mr Goel strongly criticised the party leaders present in the meeting for their failure to address peoples’ suffering owing to the ongoing sealing drive, which started in December last year.

Sources claimed that the office-bearers discussed several issues, including political resolution, but the ongoing sealing drive took the centrestage of the discussion.

The executives also discussed the Supreme Court’s contempt notice against Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari for breaking the seal of a premise in the Gokalpur area. The party unanimously decided to inform the apex court how officials illegally declared a 50 square yard plot as a dairy.

According to sources, Mr Goel categorically pointed out the failure of BJP’s city unit, saying that the current office-bearers failed to defend the people against the sealing drive.

“All the office-bearers sitting here are discussing the sealing drive, but they have never done anything or come out with concrete suggestions to provide relief to the citizens. Brainstorming, while sitting in air-conditioned rooms, will not yield any result when Delhiites are suffering,” said a senior BJP office-bearer quoting Mr Goel.

Another senior office-bearer said Mr Goel’s address to the office-bearers carried a clear-cut message that instead of sitting in the comfort of air-conditioned rooms, they must hit the roads for people. Otherwise, the party will have to face peoples’ anger.

It is also learnt that Mr Goel asked all the office-bearers present in the meeting to pledge that they will not support or promote any type of illegal construction.

Earlier, Mr Tiwari presented the agenda for discussion during Saturday’s full-house meeting, which amongst other issues stressed the need to support people facing problems due to the ongoing sealing of properties.

The meeting, chaired by Mr Tiwari, was also attended by state in-charge Shyam Jaju, co-incharge Tarun Chugh, Vijender Gupta, Meenakshi Lekhi, Udit Raj,Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Sidharthan, and Ravinder Gupta among others.
