Girl shot dead in car by friend
New Delhi: A 17-year-old girl was shot dead reportedly by her friend inside a Mercedes car parked right outside her house in Southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh area on Tuesday night. The victim was with her two male friends when one of them shot her dead. The accused, identified as Shubham, lives in the same area and is said to be absconding.
The motive of the crime is not clear but the police is of the opinion that there could be a possible love triangle between the girl, the accused and her friend Nitin, who was also present at the spot. Shubham’s friend Yogesh, who owned botrh the car as well as the licenced revolver that was used, was also at the spot.
The victim was found dead by her mother after she heard the sound of bullets being fired in the air. She immediately rushed her daughter in the same car to the Ayushman Hospital, where she was declared brought dead by the doctors.
The deceased, identified as Simran, was a resident of the Deepak Vihar area in Najafgarh. She was studying in a local school and was also preparing for her law entrance exams. The girl had gone out for lunch with her friend — accused Shubham and Yogesh in Rajouri Garden.
The girl reportedly knew Shubham for some time. But this was the first occasion that she was meeting Yogesh. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s mother got anxious as her daughter did not return home on time. She made several phone calls to her daughter at about 7 pm to check on her.
A local police officer said that the victim and her two friends made a few stops on their way back from Rajouri Garden as they went shopping. It was at about 9 pm that the girl returned accompanied by Shubham and Yogesh..
After she reached near her house, the victim did not get out of the car. But Yogesh reportedly got down from the car to relieve himself. A few metres away from the car, the victim’s mother was waiting frantically for her daughter. Nitin was also with her mother waiting for the girl to arrive. “Suddenly, the victim’s mother heard the sound of a gun shot. As Yogesh and the victim’s mother rushed towards the car, Shubham ran away from the spot,” a source involved in the investigations said.
The girl was found lying in a pool of blood. She is suspected to have died on the spot itself. Her mother rushed her to Ayushman Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The police has so far not been able to establish the motive behind the murder. Preliminary reports suggest that the weapon of offence was owned by Yogesh. He had reportedly carried the gun with him and had placed it inside the car. The police is trying to ascertain why Yogesh was carrying the gun in his car and whether the murder was pre-planned.
“We have recorded the statements of Yogesh, Nitin and the victim’s mother and have registered the case at the Najafgarh police station. We are also talking to her mother and get more details about Shubham. We will soon apprehend him,” said deputy commissioner of police Surender Kumar.
The victim’s body has been sent to Rao Tula Ram Hospital for autopsy. The police has so far denied any sexual assault in the matter. “There is no evidence so far to suggest that she was sexually assaulted. We are waiting for her autopsy to take future course of action in the matter,” Mr Kumar added.
