New Delhi: Disappointed with Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s address, scores of guest teachers on Wednesday staged a protest against the AAP government outside North Delhi’s Chhatarsal Stadium. The teachers got upset with the CM for not making any “new announcement” on the increment in their salaries. They teachers said that they have been mislead by the AAP government for the last two years.

The agitating teachers blocked the Ring Road leading to Chhatarsal Stadium, where an event was organised by the Delhi government to encourage guest teachers to perform better. A section of the teachers stood from their seats and started leaving when the chief minister started addressing the teachers.

During his interaction with the guest teachers and the heads of Delhi government schools, Mr Kejriwal assured the guest teachers that he will get the salary hike proposal approved by lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung by meeting him personally. However, the guest teachers accused the CM for “misleading” them.

Last week, the Kejriwal government had proposed to increase the salaries of guest teachers by up to 90 per cent and the file pertaining to the matter was sent to lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung for his approval.

Without attacking the L-G directly, Mr Kejriwal said that his government is struggling for the past two years to get the guest teachers regularised but the present administration is repeatedly creating obstructions in the process. He claimed that no other government in the country pays the salaries that his government has cleared in the proposal. Some of them got agitated when the chief minister apprised them that the file relating to increment in their salaries is pending with the L-G office.
