Thunderstorm likely on Republic Day, says Met dept
New Delhi: As the cold waves continue to send shivers down the spine in Delhi, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the national capital is likely to receive showers on Republic Day.
The weather is likely to deteriorate around mid-week with rain likely to occur on the eve of Republic Day. Thunderstorm with rain is forecast to occur on Republic Day, said the MeT official.
Delhiites, on the other hand, brace up for Monday blues as major stretches in New Delhi and Central Delhi areas will be made out of bound for motorists in view of a full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade. The rehearsal for the parade will start at 9.50 am from Vijay Chowk.
India Gate will be closed for traffic from 9.15 am on Monday till parade crosses Tilak Marg. From 10 am, traffic on Tilak Marg will not be allowed on both directions.
According to officials, North-South traffic will be allowed from Ring Road, Arobindo Chowk and Prithviraj Road. East-West Corridor via Ring Road will also be available via different roads. Metro rail service will remain available for commuters at all Metro stations during the full dress rehearsal.
However, boarding and de-boarding will be restricted at Kendriya Sachivalaya and Udyog Bhawan stations from 5 am to 12 noon, and Lok Kalyan Marg and Patel Chowk stations from 8.45 am to 12 noon, said the officer.
Meanwhile, the traffic from South and East Delhi towards New Delhi Railw-ay Station will be allowed on Mother Teresa Crescent and Boulevard Road via ISBT overbridge, respectively. The traffic towards Old Delhi Railway Station will be allowed on Ring Road-Ashram Chowk-Saray Kale Khan stretch.
The parade will start from Rajpath, pass through Ind-ia Gate area, and head towards Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg to reach Red Fort by 12 noon, after which all restrictions will come to an end.
