Minority wards may vote for SP, BSP candidates

New Delhi: The civic polls will see a fight between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party in Muslim-dominated are-as, with SP and BSP having a good chance in some wards.

The 13 per cent Muslim vote in the capital could be the deciding factor in many wards, especially for North Delhi Municipal Corporation, where bulk of the minority community resides.

The community members say that issues like sanitation, parking, and water continue to be main concern areas on which they will be voting.

In the 2015 assembly elections, Muslims voted en masse for AAP, but the party seems to have lost some of its vote bank.

“People say that Muslim areas generally remain dirty and it can be seen in our colony. Every street, every road is choked with garbage here and MCD does nothing about it,” says Mr Javed Ullah of N Block of Abul Fazal Enclave in Shaheen Bagh’s ward number 102.

He added that the sitting councillor are from Samajwadi Party (SP) and the party hasn’t given him the ticket again because of loss of reputation and has instead fielded a new candidate.

“Many people from here are going to vote for the SP again as the Aam Aadmi Party MLA has also not done anything,” said Mr Ullah.
