Delhi sizzles at 46ºC, day temp expected to rise
New Delhi: The national capital on Tuesday recorded its hottest day of the season with the mercury soaring to 46°C in some parts of the city.
The Safdarjung observatory, whose recording is considered official, registered a maximum temperature of 44°C Celsius, four notches above the season's average, a Met department official said.
At the Palam Observatory, the maximum temperature was even higher, at 46 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius, normal for this part of the season.
It is likely to be as hot even on Wednesday, as per forecast. However, there is a possibility of thunder lighting. Strong surface winds are expected to sweep Delhi on Wednesday and the temperature may soar up.
The MeT department’s forecast said that there is a possibility of dust storm on Thursday, which can bring down the mercury to 42°Celsius.
The humidity levels on Tuesday oscillated between 24 and 23 per cent. Day temperatures are also expected to rise in the next few days.
