New Delhi: The CISF is likely to provide consultancy in security and fire safety to the institutions in Qatar and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries.

The move is likely to generate substantial revenue for the CISF.

According to sources, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is going to sign a MoU with Qatar regarding the security and fire safety consultancy.

A team of Qatar government officials are all set to visit India so that the deal can materialise.

“The concerned ministries and agencies are in touch with the prospective clients of these countries. As the CISF has the expertise to provide safety to the industrial institutions and also has the expertise to deal with fire hazards, Qatar and other Saarc countries are keen to take the consultancy service to improve security at their respective originations and industrial installations,” said a source on condition of anonymity.

Qatar’s economy is one of the richest in the world. Petroleum and natural gas are the cornerstones of Qatar’s economy and account for over 70 per cent of the total revenue, more than 60 per cent of gross domestic product, and 85 per cent of the export earnings. Qatar has the world’s third largest proven natural gas reserve and is the second largest exporter of natural gas.

In 1999, the Parliament had further widened the charter of duties of CISF by allowing its deployment in “joint ventures.”

“We cannot disclose this now as we don’t have any concrete evidence about this development as of now. This matter is being dealt by the concerned ministries and agencies,” said CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh.
