Finish work in 750 illegal colonies in 5 months: CM
New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Saturday, directed officials to carry out development work in over 750 unauthorised colonies on a “war footing” and complete the same within five months.
The direction was given by him in a high-level meeting with irrigation and flood control minister Satyendar Jain and senior officials. The statement comes at a time when just a few months are left for the Delhi Assembly elections.
At the meeting, the chief minister was informed that the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha elections had halted the works, pushing the deadlines in many cases.
The Delhi government has made a provision of Rs 1,500 crore in the budget for the development of these colonies.
He also alleged that the DDA has “failed” to ensure the proper development of Delhi.
Mr Kejriwal, who is the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) chairman, also directed officials to make the process for getting new water connections “as simple as possible” and to restart more than 100 “non-functional” tubewells in Malviya Nagar to ensure adequate water supply in the area.
The chief minister also directed that the work of road restoration, after laying of sewer lines, be completed at the earliest.
