New Delhi: Heavy showers lashed the capital on Friday, bringing down the mercury and giving a respite from the sticky heat.

As it rained incessantly on Friday in most parts of the city, commuters faced a hard time as traffic jams were reported from many areas due to heavy waterlogging.

Heavy showers were also reported which led to snarls on major roads around South Delhi, DND, RTR flyover towards airport, Outer Ring Road, Lutyens’, and central Delhi due to waterlogging, non-functional traffic lights, and fallen tree branches.

Police said that though the traffic did not come to a halt at these stretches, movement on the arterial roads were slow. Rain bearing clouds were hovering over the city since early morning hours, with rains making an appearance around 7.30 am on Friday.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 27.5°C, seven degrees below the normal for this part of the season, while the minimum temperature was at 26.5° C, two degrees below normal.

According to meterological officials, till 8.30 am on Friday, the capital had recorded 616.6 mm of rain against 625.8 expected. However, with the incessant showers all day long, the city will likely cross the expected monsoon average, they said.
