New car stolen during test drive
New Delhi: The Delhi police arrested an accused at Rithala for robbing a car at gunpoint from a sales consultant on the pretext of a test drive on Wednesday evening.
The police said that the accused is the brother of a criminal, who was shot dead in an encounter by the Haryana police.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Anil, who took the Honda City car on the pretext of a test drive. He was nabbed following a tip off.
“On Tuesday, we received a complaint in which the complainant said that a man had come to their showroom and asked to test drive a Honda City car. As per policy, they kept a copy of his ID proof. The complainant also went with the accused for the test drive. When they reached Rohtak Road at Nangloi, the accused deliberately stopped the car. Subsequently, he stole the car at gunpoint and fled away with the same,” said DCP Seju Kuruvilla.
The police received a tip off that the accused would be coming to the Rithala Metro station and a trap was laid accordingly. “The accused was overpowered though he tried to flee from the spot along with the robbed car. During interrogation, Anil disclosed that he had graduated from a Delhi college. Later, he opened a gym along with his friend in Punjab to earn his livelihood. Thereafter, he got addicted to drugs,” said Mr Kuruvilla.
He further disclosed that he committed the crime with the intent to make money.
