State-level female shooter injures brother and mother

47-yr-old carries out shootout at S. Delhi home in drunk state.

New Delhi: A 47-year-old state-level female shooter, in a drunken state, allegedly carried out a shootout at her residence in South Delhi’s Defence Colony on Thursday night. The woman was said to be depressed and was undergoing treatment for the same. On Thursday night, the woman, using her licensed pistol, shot her mother and brother.

The police said the incident took place at a house in the C-block of the Defence Colony at 12.30 am when the accused female shooter, identified as Sangeeta Singh, came out from her room in an inebriated state and opened fire at her 75-year-old mother Geeta and brother Harsaran. Sangeeta was apprehended from the spot and her licensed revolver was recovered. She is under medical examination, police said.

The incident came to light after a neighbour, hearing gunshots, infor-med the police. A team, immediately pressed into service, visited the spot and found Harsaran and Geeta lying on the floor with bullet injuries.

“The brother sustained bullet injury in his leg while Geeta was shot in her chest and abdomen. They are admitted in AIIMS Trauma Centre and are out of danger,” a senior police officer said.

During investigation, the probe team learnt that Sangeeta is a shooter and has participated in state level events. Besides, she used to run a business in connection to adventure tourism at Sohna Road in Gurgaon.

“As per her father’s statement, she stopped going for her shooting practices and had discontinued meeting people since the past one year. She was under depression and was taking medicine for the same. Yesterday night she took some sleeping pills and her medicine along with alcohol,” the officer said.

Prima facie it appears she was strained over an ongoing property dispute with her mother and aunt. Police will request for the cancellation of license of her weapon, added the official.

A case has been registered in the jurisdictional police station in this connection and a probe is underway.
