Gang procuring illegal weapons busted, one held
New Delhi: A day after a shootout took place between sleuths of Crime Branch of the Delhi police and a gang involved in illegal procurement of arms, the team has arrested the gang comprising a person and a child in conflict with law.
Seven semi-automatic pistols, 35 live cartridges and one SUV have been recovered from their possession.
With the arrest of one notorious criminal and apprehension of a CCL, the sleuths of Crime Branch were able to neutralise an armed gang in South Delhi.
The arrested criminal was identified as Devinder alias Monu, and a CCL. The duo were nabbed in Delhi. On searching them, two 9 mm pistols and 26 cartridges were recovered.
According to the police, a specific information was received that a gang of armed criminals involved in various crimes were openly trying to procure a large cache of sophisticated weapons in the capital
For this purpose, the gang was in touch with various suppliers of illegal arms in Baghpat, Hodal, Kosi and Mathura
A trap was laid on Delhi-SurajKund border and at around 4:10pm on Wednesday, the suspect vehicle was halted by the police. The SUV stopped for a brief while and then suddenly hit the barricade tried to run over the police personnel.
The occupants of the vehicle, five in number, opened fire. In all, two rounds were fired from inside the vehicle, the police said.
The police party retaliated and burst one of the rear tyres of the vehicle. Despite a flat tyre, the they continued to drive the sports utility vehicle for another one-and-a-half km with the police team on its tail.
Later, the accused turned towards Sangam Vihar. However, since the lane ahead was narrow, the vehicle crashed into a stationary car, after which they abandoned the vehicle and fled in different directions.
As the Sangam Vihar is a highly populated locality, the criminals mixed in the crowd and disappeared. However, the alert police personnel nabbed the from near the Turkman Gate, according to the police.
