MCD engineer found guilty of corruption

The court has now fixed July 31 to hear the argument on quantum of sentence in the matter.

New Delhi: A junior engineer named Manish Goyal, posted with the South Delhi MCD, was held guilty by a special CBI court for demanding a bribe from a man in lieu of not demolishing his house. Special CBI judge Naresh Kumar Malhotra, after holding the accused guilty under prevention of corruption act said it would pronounce the verdict in the coming week. “The prosecution has successfully proved that the accused had demanded a bribe from the victim for not demolishing his house,” the court noted.

The court has now fixed July 31 to hear the argument on quantum of sentence in the matter. According to the prosecution, a man named Harish, a resident of Aali village in South Delhi, lodged a complaint with the CBI stating Manish had been demanding a bribe from him. The CBI team asked the complainant to hand over the full amount to Manish. The complainant met the accused at his office and handed over Rs 30,000. The CBI team then conducted a raid and caught the accused red handed.
