New Delhi: The Delhi BJP unit on Wednesday demanded that medical emergency be declared in the capital for prevention of swine flu. Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari claimed that presently more than 1,000 people are suffering from swine flu in the city.

“The lives of innocent people are in danger, but the Arvind Kejriwal government is the least perturbed and only issuing political statements. Swine flu has become an epidemic and the number of the people dying due to it is increasing day-by-day. Delhiites cannot be left at the mercy of the ‘insensitive’ Aam Aadmi Party government,” said Mr Tiwari.

“Hence Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Delhi unit urges the lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal that medical emergency be declared in the city for preventing swine flu and arrangements be made in the hospitals for prevention and treatment of swine flu,” he added.

According to a government official, swine flu has claimed as many as 47 lives, including 22 from Delhi, in the four government hospitals of the capital till date this year. “People elect a government to solve their problems and they expect it to protect its life and property, but the ruling government is proving to be dangerous for the Delhiites,” added Mr Tiwari.

“Death of 47 persons from swine flu and 10 workers in cleaning the sewer is proof of this fact. The silence of the government on the sewer deaths is enough to prove its lack of sensitivity,” he said. Mr Tiwari also alleged that disregarding the orders of Delhi high court, sanitation workers are being forced to manually clean the sewers due to which they are dying. The Delhi BJP chief demanded that appropriate legal action be taken against those responsible for the deaths of the sanitation workers.
