New Delhi: Two persons, including a woman, on Wednesday were arrested by the police of Subhash Nagar and Rajouri Garden police stations for allegedly cheating people under the guise of a buyer or seller on OLX. Recently, the duo had cheated a person of his Honda Car on the e-commerce portal, OLX.

The arrested persons have been identified as Lata (name changed) and Kamal alias Ranjit alias Ashwani. A Honda City car, one HP Laptop, three fake D/L, six fake Aadhar cards and three voter cards among others have been recovered from them by the police.

The police said, “On August 17, complainant Manas Arora, a resident of Subhash Nagar reported that he was duped by a mother-son duo, who claimed to be buyers of his Honda City Car through online portal, OLX. They visited the Arora’s home and took his the Honda City car after handing over a fake demand draft.

During the course of investigation, the team gathered local intelligence about the cheats. Finally, the team’s efforts bore fruit when they received a tip off that the cheats were selling a laptop. The police laid a trap and contacted the alleged cheats by posing as possible buyers of the laptop, which the cheats intended to sell, said the police.

On Tuesday, a dummy customer was sent to purchase the laptop, which led to Lata’s arrest. She told the police about her aide Ranjit alias Ashwani alias Kamal’s whereabouts following which he was arrested and Honda City car recovered.

During interrogation, the accused said that they belonged to a poor family. Frustrated, they started preparing forged documents and indulged in fake trading on OLX site. To earn a quick buck, they started duping people pretending to be buyers/sellers.
