Speeding Honda City knocks down couple
New Delhi: A cocktail of drunken driving and overspeeding spelt doom on the streets of the national capital yet again after a couple, out on a night stroll post dinner, was allegedly knocked down and injured by a Honda City car.
According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday night at about 11.30 pm in South Delhi's Moti Bagh area on a service road. The couple, who are residents of Moti Bagh area and reside in government quarters, live with their parents and three children. Both of them work at the NDMC.
The couple has been identified as Pooja (30) and Vikky (32). The police has also arrested the accused driver in this connection, who has been identified as Arjun, a resident of NDMC quarters.
Probe reveals that the couple was taking a walk on the slip road when the Honda City, driven in a rash and negligent manner, came from behind and knocked them down. At about 12.55 am a PCR call was received regarding the accident. On reaching the spot, the police found that two pedestrians had been hit by a car and were seriously injured. The offending driver had left the car and fled from the spot.
The injured persons were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by the public where both of them were found to be unfit for a statement. The police registered a case under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC.
During investigation, the police zeroed in on the accused driver with the help of the car registration number and arrested him on Thursday.
Further investigation is ongoing.
