Winter is here, mercury at 9.4ºC

According to forecast by Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature on Thursday is predicted to dip to 9ºC.

New Delhi: Winters have arrived in the national capital as minimum temperatures dropped to 9.4ºC on Thursday with the MeT Department saying that it is the coldest November since 2014.

The minimum temperature was two notches below normal and the maximum was recorded at 25.6, one notch below normal for this part of the season. The drop can be attributed to flow of icy cold northerly and nothwesterly winds from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh which have already received snowfall over the past few days.

While 9.4ºC was recorded in Safdarjung Observatory, which is taken as the base for Delhi’s weather, the temperature declined sharply at Lodhi Road where it touched, 8 ºC compared to Wednesday’s reading of 8.4ºC. According to forecast by Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature on Thursday is predicted to dip to 9ºC, which will be the lowest of the season here so far. “Also, it will be the coldest November since 2014, when that year the mercury had last plummeted to 9ºC in the same month. In November month of 2012 and 2013 also, the minimum temperature had fallen to 9ºC,” a MeT official said.
