DJB plan on sewage water treatment to get fresh push
New Delhi: The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) project to decentralise the treatment of sewage water by setting up six STPs, wh-ich was shelved last year, has gained momentum again with the water utility inviting bidders for it.
Under the project, waste water and raw sewage was to be treated in the colony itself and used for non-drinking purposes rather than directly flowing into the Yamuna.
The DJB had come out with the project in 2015 and proposed six locations for setting up sewage treatment plants (STPs). However, it could not materialise as it failed to receive a good response.
This time, the DJB is going ahead with some modifications.
“The water will still be treated at decentralised level, but it will be used for recharge of water bodies. This will compensate for extraction and the water will be treated and supplied for non-portable purposes,” said a DJB official.
“In the previous plan, the base water was received, treated at STP, and the same was supplied. That had some issues. So we have modified the project,” he said.
Earlier, the locations were Gautampuri near Aali Gaon, Aya Nagar Village, Sai Nagar, Kair Village, Sonia Vihar A-Block and Begam Vihar B-Block. The DJB has currently identified three locations — Aya Nagar, Mitraon, and Kairon— for which the tenders have been done.
“We have selected those locations where we have developed water bodies. The pre-bid meeting has been done. This will be awarded to an agency in another 10-15 days,” the official said.
