BJP to train new civic councillors
New Delhi: Anticipating the party’s victory in the civic bodies, the BJP plans to conduct training for its newly elected councillors, the majority of whom are first timers. The party had fielded new faces by denying ticket to its sitting councillors. So, the party leadership is of the view that to make them understand the functioning of the municipal corporations, they should be given proper training. The party also talked about merging the three civic bodies into one entity.
On Tuesday, Union minister Vijay Goel said that the newly elected councillors will be given training to deal with various public welfare issues more efficiently and the focus would be on ‘good governance.’
“We will train them to deal with the bureaucracy as well as issues pertaining to the public to ensure that all grievances are addressed in a time bound manner,” added Mr Goel.
Training will be provided by the senior party leaders from both Centre and state and by the senior councillors who were not denied ticket to contest the polls.
Talking about the priorities, Mr Goel said that the key focus would be on maximum engagement with the public and their involvement in the decision making process with the key idea of ‘Jan Bhagidaari.’
“Our aim would be to maximise the efforts of Swachhta (cleanliness) and involve the youth too in our efforts as they are full of zeal and new ideas,” said Mr Goel.
He also talked about merging the three civic bodies into one to make it more efficient. “The previous Sheila Dikshit government had hurriedly separated the municipal body into three parts. Except one municipal body, the rest two are running into losses and it would be more fruitful and efficient if all three are merged as they were initially,” he said.
