Two women found with throats slit at North Delhi residence

Killer had switched on a cooler so that the cries of the victims are not heard.

New Delhi: The bodies of two young women were found with their throats slit at a house in North Delhi’s Timarpur on Monday.

Premlata and Sonia, aged 28 and 24 respectively, were found in a pool of blood in the building in Wazirabad area. Premlata’s husband, Mohit, is the nephew of Sonia’s father Raj Kumar Sharma.

The police suspect that Mohit could have a role in the killings. He has been missing since the matter was reported to them and his cell phone is also switched off.

It is suspected that Mohit had a fight with his wife last night and killed her, said a police official, adding that it could be possible that when Sonia tried to intervene, he killed her too. The police is also probing whether Mohit was nursing any grudge against Mr Sharma and whether it was an act of revenge killing.

Mohit may have been under the influence of alcohol when the crime happened, he added. Sonia recently underwent a surgery for removal of stones and Premlata and Mohit had come from Agra to take care of her.

The incident came to light when Mr Sharma’s calls to the women went unanswered and he asked his tenant, who stays upstairs, to enquire about them. The tenant went downstairs and found bloodstains outside the entrance and informed Mr Sharma. He called Rohtash, who lives nearby, and has been known to the family for the last seven to eight years. Rohtash, who works as a property dealer, went inside and found Premlata’s body in the lobby while Sonia’s body was found in the washroom. “I informed the police after I saw the bodies. A knife was found lying on the washing machine and a screwdriver was also found on the spot,” he recalled.

The police said that the duo was first attacked with a screwdriver and then their throats were slit with a kitchen knife. It is suspected that the duo was killed around 2 am and the killer had switched on the cooler so that their cries could be drowned by its noise.

Mr Sharma stayed with his children Sonia and Shailender in the area. He belongs to Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh. His wife had passed away around one-and-a-half-years ago. He had gone to attend an engagement ceremony with his son to Auraiya, leaving behind his daughter with Premlata and her husband.
