Vajpayee birthday: BJP workers clean up key city markets
New Delhi: Delhi BJP chief and Member of Parliament Manoj Tiwari, along with party leader Meenakshi Lekhi, launched a sanitation drive at Connaught Place on Sunday to commemorate the ‘Good Governance Day’ being observed on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpai. The sanitation drive, organised by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), was attended by representatives of New Delhi Traders Associations, safai sevaks, employees of NDMC and volunteers of Raahgiri. The drive was carried out at outer and inner circle of Connaught Place, prominent markets like Khan Market, Sarojini Nagar, Bengali Market, Shanker Market Gole Market and major gardens and parks of New Delhi area. Underlining the importance of Swachchhta, Mr Tiwari said that the NDMC has undertaken a number of sustained campaigns to makeover New Delhi area to make it clean, green and livable. “The safai sevaks are very important persons (VIPs) and deserved due respect in our society. The attitudinal and mindset changes towards safai karamacharis and safe sanitary habits is the need of hour,” added Mr Tiwari.
The council has decided to makeover all entry points to NDMC area by painting, repairing and thoroughly cleaning. An appropriate floral pots would be displayed to give a distinctive look. The decision to this effect has been taken by the NDMC ahead of the Swachchh Bharat ranking, which is due in January, 2017.
Last time, NDMC ranked fourth and this time the council is aiming to score the first position.
