Cheat, wife arrested for stealing Rs 3.80 lakh
New Delhi: The Delhi police arrested a 40-year-old conman whose job was to dupe people by promising to arrange cheap loans from nationalised banks.
The accused, identified as Deepak Arora, was arrested in a case of cheating of Rs 3.80 lakh. Arora to treat his ailing wife, began conning people along with his wife, Shobha, who was his willing partner.
The police said that an act of cheating took place on March 31 when a complainant approached the police saying that she received a message of unauthorised withdrawal of Rs 3.80 lakh from her bank account. She told them that one woman called her a few days ago and convinced her that she would arrange a loan of Rs 12 lakh on cheap interest rate. The complainant was initially reluctant, but on Arora wife’s insistence she agreed. for it.
The woman fixed a meeting with the complainant at her residence to collect the documents required for approval of loan.
Soonafter, the woman gave all documents, including a cancelled cheque, which was duly signed by the complainant to the woman.
Half-an-hour after the woman left the house, the complainant received an SMS alert that Rs 3.80 lakh has been debited from her account.
She complained to the police, who scanned the footage of CCTVs installed inside banks. The CCTV footage showed a suspicious person inside the bank. During probe, the cashier was found negligent as he neither verified nor called the account holder before handing over Rs 3.8 lakh to Arora. After the co-accused’s identity was established, Arora was nabbed Tis Hazari Metro station.
