Mr Bhardwaj was accused by AAP leaders of attacking Kapil Mishra. He filed the defamation case against Arvind kejriwal and Sanjay Singh for allegedly trying to tarnish his image by spreading rumours about him. On May 10, Mr Mishra began his hungerstrike against Mr Kejriwal behind his residence in Civil Lines. In the evening, a youth attacked him, but was soon overpowered by the mob and handed over to the police. He told the media that his name was Ankit Bhardwaj. A few minutes after the incident, the AAP leaders started tweeting that Mr Mishra was attacked by a BJYM member.
Sanjay Singh had also said that the attacker of Mr Mishra was intentionally sent by the BJP. Later, it was found that the man who attacked Mr Mishra as not Mr Bhardwaj of BJYM but a CA who left job and had been working for the AAP.
