Disabled man accused of rape

Victim a 23-yr-old DU student, claims she was forcibly married.

New Delhi: A physically-challenged youth has been accused of cheating, sedating and keeping a 23-year-old Delhi University student captive inside his house and raping her. The incident took place in Gokulpuri police station limits. The incident came to light on May 23 when the girl managed to evade from his captivity and approached the police.

The police said the survivor claimed that she was forcibly married to the accused, identified as Parvez, who had sedated her by lacing her drink and got her signatures on the marriage papers. He then allegedly raped her and held her in his captivity. Sunita (name changed) is pursuing graduation from Delhi University.

The girl alleged that it all began around 10 months ago when she received a call on her phone where the caller introduced himself as Parvez. He told the girl that he was in love with her. Sunita asked him not to call her further. However, a jilted lover, Parvez continued to send her texts and coaxed her to at least be friends with him. After repeated messages, the girl agreed to this.

She further said that when she refused to meet him, he allegedly threatened her saying he would make his chats and call recordings public if she will not agree. Sunita surrendered to his demands and agreed to meet him. The accused came along with his friend whom he introduced as Parvez and kept his identity under the wrap. Not knowing the truth, the survivor was attracted by the pleasing personality of the man she thought was Parvez. She agreed to take a step forward in their relationship and agreed to marry him.

Meanwhile, the accused continued to chat with Sunita over texts and calls and didn’t reveal that he was the real Parvez. He told the police that he hid his identity because he thought if the girl found out about him being handicapped, she would reject him. As decided, the girl left her home to meet him at a decided point and saw him waiting for her. When asked, he allegedly lied to her that Parvez was waiting for her at his flat. When they reached the flat, the accused disclosed his real identity.

The girl then called off the marriage plan. Parvez allegedly held her captive, sedated her and got her signatures on the marriage papers. He then raped her, according to the complainant. The accused, however, told the police that the girl married him with her consent and that he didn’t rape her. A case is being probed by Gokulpuri police station.
