Group clashes highest in city jails for 3 yrs in a row

In the year 2015, over 59 percent incidents of clashes and group clashes took place inside the prisons of national capital.

NEW DELHI: Delhi prisons topped the list of incidents of clashes and group clashes across the country for three consecutive years from 2014 to 2016.

The data showed that over 34 per cent of such crimes were solely reported in 2016 from Delhi prisons where notorious criminals, terrorists and high profile accused are lodged. In the same period total 38 death in jails across the country, due to murder by inmates, were reported out of which 12 took place inside Delhi Prisons, while four deaths each were reported in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which compiled prison, statistics in its publication “Prison Statistics India” stated that, in 2016, over 34 percent incidents of clashes and group clashes took place inside the Delhi prisons. As the data showed overall 82 incidents were reported across the country out of which 28 were reported in Delhi alone, while with 19 cases Bihar stands at number two and 8 cases were reported in Madhya Pradesh.

In the year 2015, over 59 percent incidents of clashes and group clashes took place inside the prisons of national capital. As the data shows overall 187 incidents were reported across the country out of which 112 were reported in Delhi alone, while with 16 cases Bihar stands at number two and 12 cases took place in West Bengal.

However in the year 2014, over 69 percent incidents of clashes and group clashes took place inside the prisons of national capital. As the data shows overall 255 incidents were reported across the country out of which 177 were reported in Delhi alone, while Rajasthan stands second with 33 cases and Haryana third with 15 cases of clashes inside jails.

Further the data in the year 2016 showed that, overall 13 incidents of jail break were reported across the country out of which not even a single was reported in Delhi, while Madhya Pradesh topped the chart in Jail break with four incidents and Tripura came second with three incidents while two incidents took place in Rajasthan.
