Modi must quit if he can’t protect CM: Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step down if he cannot ensure his safety, days after a man flung chilli powder at him inside the Delhi secretariat.

Speaking at the one-day special session of the Delhi Assembly, Mr Kejriwal alleged that the BJP was behind the November 20 attack as it was “baffled” by the “good work” done by his government in the national capital.

“Narendra Modi should resign if he cannot protect Delhi's chief minister,” Mr Kejriwal said in the House which had met to discuss the attack on the AAP chief and the alleged deletion of names from the voters’ list.

The special session of the Delhi Assembly that began on Monday was extended by a day as scheduled business of the House could not be completed.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta and rebel AAP MLA Kapil Mishra were marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly on Monday as both the legislators were adamant to have discussions on their respective issues in the House and refused to comply with the Speaker’s orders.

Mr Mishra was marshalled out of the House minutes after Delhi Assembly’s special session commenced, when he tried to raise the issues of strike by contractual employees of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and “illegal Bangladeshis” living in the national capital.

BJP leader Mr Gupta faced a similar action when he continued to disrupt minister Satyendar Jain’s speech on a government’s resolution to bring the Delhi police under the control of the Delhi government.

Despite repeated warnings, Mr Gupta objected to the minister’s speech. When he did not relent, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel ordered the BJP MLA to be marshalled out of the House.

During his speech, Mr Jain slammed the BJP-led Central government and the police over the recent attack on chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
