BJP slams hike, dubs DJB corrupt
New Delhi: Condemning decision to increase water tariff, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday said that with the decision to hike the rate of water by 20 per cent exposes the real face of Arvind Kejriwal government, which had shed crocodile tears on the decision to increase Metro fares.
Lodging a protest over the water tariff hike, Mr Tiwari on Tuesday met lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal with a delegation regarding the Delhiites’ problems and urged that it be withdrawn.
“The DJB is a corrupt white elephant and now the people will have to pay the price for the government’s ‘protection’ to corruption. Due to the hike, people will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 500 to Rs 600 crore. The people are already suffering from loot in the form of additional charges by private power distribution companies under the patronage of government and now this water tariff hike has added to the burden,” said Mr Tiwari.
Pointing out that just after coming to power, Mr Kejriwal had announced supplying 20,000 liters of water free of all charges and had claimed that it will benefit 20 lakh consumers. But in reality the free water supply is not reaching even to around two lakh consumers.
BJP vice president Jai Prakash, spokesperson Asok Goel and head of media relation department Neelkant Bakshi accompanied Mr Tiwari.
