Wanted criminal held after shootout

Police team was not injured as it was wearing bullet proof jackets during the operation.

New Delhi: Wanted in several cases of extortion and robberies, the police arrested a notorious criminal during an encounter in south Delhi’s Okhla area on Thursday.

In a gunfight, the accused, who was on main the Okhla Phase–III road, shot four rounds of fire after the police tried to intercept him. However, the police overpowered in retaliatory firing and arrested him after the firing came to an end from both sides.

The encounter took place at the corner entrance of main Okhla Phase–III road, beside Modi Mill flyover. The police team was not injured as it was wearing bullet proof jackets during the operation.

The accused, identified as Kasim Mullah, 34, a notorious rowdy sheeter, was wanted in dozens of murder and extortion cases. Acting on the information received on his whereabouts, the police reached Okhla Mandi to arrest the accused. Before the operation, the police had taken stock of the area.

As the team was waiting for any leads around 1:40 am, the police saw a suspicious man driving a white color TVS sport motorcycle bearing number DL 5SAT 6032, which was being driven by Mr Kasim.

During interrogation, the police learnt Mr Kasim, in 2006, along with his associates committed several robberies in trans Yamuna area and carried two to three fire arms during the crimes.

A case under Sections 186/353/307 IPC and 25/27 Arms Act has been registered at Okhla Industrial police station.
