Brain dead man gives new lease of life to four
New Delhi: Four people got a new lease of life after the family of a 25-year-old man, declared brain dead after an accident, donated his organs on Tuesday.
The victim had met with a road accident in the early hours of Monday and was brought into the emergency of a private hospital in South Delhi at 3.58 am. He was declared brain dead owing to multiple fractures and organ failures.
Following this, the victim’s family came forward to donate his vital organs post counselling by the transplant coordinators.
The donor, a native of Tamil Nadu, is survived by his mother and father, who is a cancer patient, and an elder brother.
The heart, liver, and a pair of kidney harvested from the donor’s body were delivered to three hospitals. One of the kidneys was used for transplantation in Fortis Vasant Kunj itself.
A “green corridor” was created during the peak traffic hours on Wednesday evening from South Delhi to West Delhi for delivering the organs in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and BLK Super Speciality Hospital.
