Student killed, 9 others hurt as tempo rams van
New Delhi: In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old student died and 9 others were injured after commercial tempo rammed their schoolvan from behind in North Delhi’s Timarpur area on Tuesday.
The van was carrying students of Rosery school in Model Town. The impact of the hit was so severe that the minor boy succumbed to his injuries that he sustained during the accident, said the police on Tuesday.
The deceased boy has been identified as Vaibhav Kumar Yadav.
“Vaibhav Kumar Yadav(8), a student of Class 3, was immediately rushed to the hospital along with other children but succumbed to his injuries. Vaibhav's father Vinod Kumar Yadav is an assistant sub-inspector in Delhi police crime branch,” said the police.
The impact was so severe that both the tempo and the school van overturned. In fact, the school van turned turtle, inuring the 10 students. The students were taken out with the help of locals and passerby on Tara Chowk, where the mishap occured.
The driver, however, escaped unhurt as the collision affected only the rear of the Maruti Eeco, where the children were seated.
According to the police, the vehicle was a private van ferrying students to school and back. Parents of the children had hired the van for the purpose.
“A case under section 337, 279 and 304 (A) has been registered against the tempo driver. He has been identified as Salman, a resident of Azadpur,” said the police.
