Brother batters Delhi University teacher to death, arrested
New Delhi: Victim had asked his younger brother to leave the house as he had invited his girlfriend over, which led to an altercation and the subsequent murder, the police said.
A man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his younger brother at their rented accommodation at North Delhi’s Burari area in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Hitesh Kumar Verma (27), an assistant professor in DU, had been living with his brother, Himanshu (23), in Delhi for the past two years.
The police received a PCR call at around 3 am, one hour after the incident had taken place. The team immediately rushed to his house where Himanshu allegedly cooked up a story that two men had barged inside their house and murdered his brother. The police said that he had hidden the weapon of offence under his bed, which was later seized by them.
The victim had asked his younger brother, a post-graduate student at the Delhi University, to leave the house as he had invited his girlfriend over, which was followed by the duo’s fight and the latter killing his brother.
According to a police official, once Hitesh got a job in Delhi, he called his brother to the city so he could pursue his post-graduation from DU. The police said that the duo had been living away from their family in Jhansi and went to visit them every two months.
Himanshu told the police that two months after he moved to Delhi, Hitesh met a girl. They started meeting each other quite often. At first Hitesh hid his friendship with the girl from his younger brother as he feared that his brother might share the information with their parents in Jhansi.
When Himanshu was arrested, he disclosed that Hitesh started taking advantage of the same and started asking him to stay outside the house for hours.
