ASI found dead in barrack, kin cry foul
New Delhi: A 50-year-old assistant sub-inspector was found dead in the barracks of a police station in Delhi’s Rohini district on Wednesday late night.
The deceased, Ramesh Kumar, was posted in South Rohini police station and was found with a bullet wound to his chest, the police said.
Prima facie, it appears that he had shot himself with his service pistol, a senior police official said.
The family, however, alleged that he couldn’t have committed suicide and suspects that he may have been murdered.
No suicide note was found and hence the reason was still not clear, the police added.
Kumar, who hailed from Bihar, was attached to police malkahana and was living in Narela police colony with his wife and two sons. At the time of the incident, Kumar had finished his duty and was allegedly resting in his barrack.
Kumar’s shift ended at 8 pm on Wednesday and he retired at the barracks instead of heading home, the police officer said, adding that he did not return his service pistol despite the shift getting over.
On Thursday morning, his body was found on the bed and his pistol was also found on the spot.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The police suspects that Kumar was depressed. Kumar’s father had passed away in July
It seems that he shot himself with his service pistol. The police further said that the pistol used by Kumar to commit suicide has been taken into possession.
