Undertrial killed outside court, shooter arrested

The deceased, Rajesh, was reportedly a member of the Neetu Dabodia gang and had several cases of murder and dacoity against him.

New Delhi: An undertrial was shot dead outside the Rohini district court complex on Saturday. The police arrested the shooter on the spot.

The deceased, Rajesh, was reportedly a member of the Neetu Dabodia gang and had several cases of murder and dacoity against him.

He was arrested in December last year in a murder case in Agra, and was lodged in Jhajjar jail since then. He was listed as a “bad character” in outer district’s Bawana Police Station. On Saturday, he was brought to Rohini to be produced before the court by personnel of the Haryana Police.

The accused, identified as 19-year-old Mohit alias Atankwadi, was arrested from the spot after policeman deployed in court security detained him. The incident took place at around 11:30 am, when the victim was being taken to court by the Haryana police. As soon as they got off the vehicle, a man opened fire from a country made pistol, said Rishi Pal, deputy commissioner of police, Rohini district. “The deceased was shot at point black range at his chest,” said Mr Pal.

The accused, Mohit, belongs to Rohad village in Jhajjar district of Haryana, the police official added.

The police said while the deceased was an associate of Neetu Dabodia gang, it was found that Mohit belonged to Neeraj Bawania’s gang. “Mohit with his friend Satish arrived outside the Rohini court by bike. Satish helped identify Rajesh for Mohit,” said the DCP. Mohit, who was in an inebriated condition, ran close to Rajesh and fired two shots at his chest at point blank range, creating chaos in the area. Rajesh collapsed on the ground. A PCR call was made and he was rushed to Ambedkar Hospital where he succumbed.
