Over one lakh students register online for courses in DU
New Delhi: Over one lakh students have registered online for admissions to DU’s undergraduate-merit based programmes within a week of the opening of the online registration process.
So far, Delhi tops with the highest number of applications i.e. 38, 015 followed by UP with 23, 302 applications. Haryana stands third with 13, 168 and then Bihar and Rajasthan with 4,181 and 3,692 applications respectively.
A total of 1,24,876 candidates have applied to the varsity so far, of which, 99,510 applicants have completed their personal details.
“Male candidates who have registered are 57,060, females candidates are 42,414. Total third gender applicants are 36,” officer on special duty, admissions, Ashutosh Bhardwaj said in a statement.
In terms of category-wise, students belonging to unreserved category are 63,018 students whereas 22, 838 students have applied under the OBC category.
“SC category applicants are 10, 926 and ST category candidates are 2,728,” he added.
However, there are some courses, which have gain-ed immense popularity among the students over the years. Continuing its trend this year too, Engl-ish Honours, Economics Honours, BCom Honours and B.Com are becoming the most sought after courses in the varsity.
The aforementioned courses remained the top-most preferred courses even last year.
“In addition to these, humanities and science cou-rses are also in demand. As more than 2.50 lakh students had applied last year and most of them had applied for these courses, the cut-offs for these courses were high,” a university official said.
Last year, the cut off for Eco (H) was 98.27 per cent and out of 2.50 lakh, 82, 632 students alone had applied for it.
Similarly, the cutoff for English (H) was 98.75 per cent, for which over 1.15 lakh students had applied.
