Chain snatcher arrested after woman fights back
New Delhi: A motorcycle-borne snatcher landed in police custody owing to the efforts of a brave woman, who refused to let go of him when he tried to snatch her gold chain.
The woman displayed exemplary courage and tried to stop the man from fleeing with her gold chain. During the tussle, the accused fell down from the motorcycle. Meanwhile, showing presence of mind, the complainant took pictures of the motorcycle and the accused on her mobile phone. The incident was reported near the Netaji Subhash Place area.
On Wednesday, a case was registered based on the complaint of Meenakshi Gupta. A resident of Uttam Nagar, she was going back to her home when the bike-borne assailant tried to snatch her chain.
During investigation, it came to notice that the motorcycle number was registered in the name of one Renu Miglani, a resident of Saraswati Vihar in Rani Bagh.
The woman joined the investigation and claimed that her son, Sonu, had loaned the motorcycle to one Ramu for some urgent work. However, they said they didn’t know where the latter lived.
A team was constituted to nab accused Ramu Soni, a resident of JJ Colony. His whereabouts was traced along with the vehicle in question.
During interrogation, accused Ramu confessed of snatching the chain on Wednesday. It also came to notice that he was involved in eight different cases, including robbery, snatching, and theft.
Two stolen bikes were also recovered at his instance.
